Garden Decorating Ideas

In some sense, simply using garden decor throughout the landscape is different than actually decorating a garden as part of a design plan.  Adding whimsical displays that have personal meaning may simply take on a random display of nick knacks that reflect the personality of the designer or creator.  And most of this decor creating the personality of so many gardens and landscapes is generally anything other than store bought. New, modern, and purchased garden decor like gazing balls and resin sculptures has its place. However, there is a lot to be said for the atmosphere that the out of the ordinary can add to a garden.

Garden decor can be almost anything. From decorative pots to old spoke wheel wagons filled with flowers, it’s simply a matter of preference or theme. It’s interesting and inspiring to see some of the ideas and elements that folks come up with to use for decorating their gardens and landscaping. Check out the directory at garden decor ideas and you’ll understand what I mean. There are several pages of pictures and ideas for decorating gardens and landscaping with common, old, and unusual items.

Generally, garden decor and decoration is more noticeable in small gardens, courtyards, patio settings, and smaller yards than in large landscapes. In small areas there is more viewable area where more pieces of decor can be visible at the same time.

While most designers will have some specific and rigid guidelines for using garden decor, I say, “it depends”. Ultimately, it’s up to the designer and creator of a garden to determine its purpose or direction. For more public, commercial, or visible displays, some consideration may be given to balance, unity, and simplicity. Otherwise, it’s your garden to do with what you want to.

Desert Landscaping Ideas

From the name itself, desert landscaping doesn’t seem that it would be all that interesting. However, if you’ve ever seen a real desert in an unusually wet year, you’ve seen a beautifully unique landscape that can be found nowhere else. Still, I think the picture in most folks head is of cactus, rocks, and rolling hills of sand so it doesn’t really make sense why it’s so popular.

Actually, what most folks are asking for when they speak of a desert landscape design is something of the Santa Fe Arizona or Southwest landscaping style. For the most part, all of these areas are in the desert so I guess that would be a valid request. I understand.

Another common misunderstanding with desert and Southwest landscaping is with xeriscaping. Xeriscaping is a method of landscaping that can be used in these and most design styles to help conserve natural resources. It is not a design style itself.
